Tracing Colour with Tea: A Gentle Introduction to Tea Dyeing
At once simple and sensory, it transforms a cup of tea into a moment of colour, memory, and slow creation.
Our first public appearance.
In collaboration with London Tea Friends, this session invited participants to taste with their senses and draw with memory. Two teas—Taiwanese Osmanthus Oolong and a secret summer blend—were served. Guests were invited to colour their impressions on a specially designed sheet inspired by Ming floral patterns.
Materials
Loose-leaf tea
Ming-inspired drawing sheet (A5 cotton paper)
Colour pencils
Outdoor tea table with shared teaware
Duration
Drop-in session from 11:00–15:30
Approx. 60 participants across the afternoon
What Remains
A collection of 23 hand-drawn works, each one a sensory echo of that day.
These drawings will form part of our HereThe Community Archive, and selected pieces will be included in our first zine and upcoming exhibition.
