What is neurodiversity?
Neurodiversity is the idea that neurological differences — such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, Tourette's, sensory processing sensitivity, and others — are natural variations of the human brain, not deficits to be fixed.
At HereThe, we recognise that everyone experiences the world differently. For some, everyday sensory input like sound, texture, scent, or light can be deeply overwhelming — or deeply comforting.
We believe these differences deserve understanding, respect, and representation in culture and design.
How we support neurodiverse voices
HereThe is committed to making space for neurodivergent creators, audiences, and ways of sensing. We do this by:
-
Working with neurodiverse artists, like Sammi Mak, whose intuitive, emotion-led work shapes our editions
-
Designing slower experiences — our tea boxes are curated for touch, scent, and reflection, not speed or overstimulation
-
Using printed materials (like zines) with gentle layouts, readable fonts, and accessible pacing
-
Avoiding overly busy packaging or content that can feel chaotic or triggering for some users
-
Sharing sensory rituals that invite grounding, not urgency
We also try to centre emotional resonance, texture, and memory in all that we do — because for many neurodiverse people, these are not secondary details, but essential ways of connecting.
